Flash Fiction Challenge: Goldfish Bowl

Response to a challenge by Rachael Harrie of Rach Writes.
Write a flash fiction story (in any format) in 100 words or less, excluding the title. Begin the story with the words, “The goldfish bowl teetered” These four words will be included in the word count.

Goldfish Bowl
The goldfish bowl teetered. Morgan sucked her breath through her teeth and hung grimly to the rim until it steadied.

“Goldfish, goldfish, shall I have you in a dish?” sang a loud approaching voice. It giggled. Morgan clenched her teeth and swung her legs over the rim. She slid down the curved side, falling hard and rolling up into a dead sprint. She dove into a pile of giant dusty teddy bears.

“Red fish, blue fish, WHERE’S MY GOLDFISH?!”

Screaming. Crying.

A higher voice.

“You probably ate it and forgot, Sammy. Your father will get you another.”
